Paternity DNA Testing
ReliaLab Test provides accurate paternity DNA testing to confirm or establish a biological father-child relationship, available as a legal test with a documented chain of custody or as an informational test for private peace of mind. Testing is available nationwide through a network of more than 15,000 collection clinics, with local service from ReliaLab’s team based in Nashville, Tennessee.
How Paternity Testing Works
A cheek swab sample is collected from the child and alleged father (a mother’s sample is optional). The lab compares DNA markers between the two. A true father typically shows 99.9%+ probability of paternity; a non-father is excluded with 100% certainty.

Which Type of Paternity Test Do You Need?
Legal Paternity Test
Every participant’s identity is verified with photo ID, and collection is witnessed by a neutral, trained collector at a collection clinic or by a mobile collector. That documented chain of custody makes the result admissible in court. Choose this for child support or custody cases, adding a father to a birth certificate, immigration or estate matters, or anything that may be reviewed by a court.
Order a legal test → Home KitInformational (Home) Paternity Test
A kit is mailed to your home. Participants self-collect a cheek swab and mail it back to the lab. There is no witnessed collection, so this is for personal knowledge only. Choose this for a private answer before deciding whether to pursue a legal test.

Paternity DNA Testing FAQ
DNA paternity testing is highly accurate. A true biological father will typically show a probability of paternity of 99.9% or higher, while a non-father is excluded with 100% certainty.
A legal test has a witnessed collection with photo ID verification and a documented chain of custody, making it admissible in court. A home test is self-collected and is for personal knowledge only.
Yes. ReliaLab offers a non-invasive prenatal paternity test performed with a blood draw, safe for both mother and baby, available as early as 8 weeks into pregnancy. See the Non-Invasive Prenatal Paternity DNA Test page for details.
Bring a printed or digital copy of your Test Authorization Order along with valid government-issued photo ID for every adult participant. A parent or guardian must accompany any minor being tested.
A standard test requires a sample from the child and the alleged father; a mother’s sample is optional. If the alleged father is unavailable, an avuncular or grandparentage test may establish the relationship instead.
Pricing depends on whether you need a legal or informational test. Current pricing is shown when you view or order either test above.
Once the lab receives the sample, most results are available within [CONFIRM CURRENT TURNAROUND] business days. Legal tests may take slightly longer due to chain-of-custody documentation.
Yes. A mother’s DNA sample can add statistical confidence to the result but is not required to establish paternity between a child and alleged father.
