Urine typically shows use from the past one to three days for most substances. Oral fluid typically covers the past one to two days. Hair covers about 90 days, but it usually will not show use from the last week or so, because hair takes time to grow out from the scalp. Nail detection windows vary by person and by substance.

Instant tests can give a negative result at the collection clinic the same day. Many negative urine results are ready 24 to 48 hours after the lab receives your sample. Hair and nail results typically take 3 to 5 business days. A result that screens positive goes through confirmation testing and Medical Review Officer review, which usually adds 1 to 3 days.

Most often a hair test, because its roughly 90-day look-back is not affected by a few days without use. Some courts name a panel size or a specific substance list, and some accept nail testing when hair is unavailable. Always confirm the exact requirement with your attorney, your officer, or the court order before you order, because a test that does not match the order may not be accepted.

No. A home DNA test is collected without a witness, so there is no chain of custody and courts will not accept it. It answers the question for your own knowledge only. If you need the result for a custody case, a child support matter, an immigration petition, or a birth certificate, you need the legal test, which uses a witnessed collection with documented identification at every step.

Yes. Results are released only to the person or organization that ordered the test. We do not share results with any third party without your authorization. For employer-ordered testing, results go to the designated employer contact as part of the testing program.
