Instant tests give a negative result at the collection site the same day. Negative urine results are typically available within one to three business days. Hair and nail results generally take three to five business days. Any result that screens positive goes through additional confirmation testing and Medical Review Officer review, which usually adds one to three days.

No. A home DNA kit is collected by you without a witness, so there is no chain of custody and no court will accept it. It answers the question for your own knowledge only. If the result needs to be used in a custody case, a child support matter, an immigration petition, or on a birth certificate, you need the legal test, which uses a witnessed collection with documented identification at every step.

Yes. Results are released only to the person or organization that ordered the test. We do not share results with any third party without your authorization. For employer-ordered testing, results go to the designated employer contact as part of the testing program.

The sample goes to confirmation testing by mass spectrometry, and a Medical Review Officer then contacts the donor to ask whether there is a legitimate medical explanation, such as a valid prescription. Only after that review is a result reported as positive. If you hold a prescription for a detected substance, have that information ready for the MRO.
